Adrian’s research is in three interrelated areas: Musical Composition, the Creative Technologies, and his work with Arcomis (Arts Commissioning) Ltd.
Adrian was awarded a PhD in Composition from Cardiff University in 2007. His Doctoral research was mainly concerned with producing a portfolio of original music supported by a commentary that contextualised and analysed his music. The commentary also considered issues around the perception of time in contemporary classical music from a composers’ perspective, specifically the music of Adés, Anderson, Birtwistle and several other leading British composers.
Since 2007 Adrian has continued to work as a professional composer writing works for professional and amateur musicians from around the UK. Most recently his piece Horpinem was performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales as part of Composition Wales 2017.
Having established Arcomis (Arts Commissioning) in 2007 Adrian continues to act as director of the business that promotes contemporary music in three ways: through actively encouraging the commissioning of new music, by hosting an online collection of new music scores from around 100 composers and through staging large-scale performance events that have new music at their heart.
Adrian is currently working in three areas, supported by a research time allocation from the University of Portsmouth:
- Musical Composition
- Creative Technologies
- Arcomis: Knowledge Exchange, Business Engagement and Impact through Arcomis
