Conducting

Adrian is an experienced conductor of both professional and amateur musicians. His primary interest is in conducting contemporary music, stemming from his time as Principle Conductor of the London Contemporary Music Group and his primary work as a composer.

Adrian’s career as a conductor started at King’s College London where he conducted many student ensembles and worked with the University Symphony Orchestra. Whilst there he directed concerts which included music by Stravinsky, Copland, Bernstein, himself and many others.

After leaving King’s conducting activities included working with musicians from Trinity College of Music, the Royal Academy of Music and several concerts with musicians drawn from his own chamber orchestra emco.

Upon moving to Cardiff in 2003 he conducted the University’s critically acclaimed Contemporary Music Group (Birtwistle’s Carmen Arcadiae Mechanicae Perpetuum and Reich’s City Life) and worked with various groups of musicians from within the University as well as outside ensembles. In 2004 he worked with a local theatre company as Musical Director for their sell out semi-professional production of Bernstein’s West Side Story in The New Theatre, Cardiff.

Adrian conducted part of the inaugural concert of the London Contemporary Music Group on October 13th, 2005. He went on to become Principle Conductor of the LCMG and gave a number of concerts that included significant world premieres by composers both established and up-and-coming.

At the University of the West of England Adrian has led the UWE Big Band, the UWE Chamber Orchestra and the UWE Symphony Orchestra and Singers as well as directing a number of smaller ensembles.
